Last night we were thrilled to have hosted the 2nd Wedding Industry Network Evening organised by our team at ESC Weddings.

Held at 45 Millbank (beautiful lesser known venue on the banks of the Thames) we mingled with suppliers of the Wedding Industry.

ESC Events has had a specialist weddings division for over 3 years.  Utilising the years of experience ESC has had in the wedding industry we started ESC Weddings as a division of the business dedicated to delivering beautiful weddings.

We have been lucky enough to work with some of the finest suppliers in the industry and saw an opportunity for bringing together these companies to pool their experiences and contacts.

Very often some of these suppliers are small businesses, one man bands who expressed a real desire to have the opportunity to access a larger ‘community’ of businesses like theirs.

February 2011 saw the first of the Wedding Industry Networking Evenings held at Kingston’s, Warren House. The event was hosted with the express purpose of meeting other suppliers as passionate about the wedding industry as we are.

It was a great success and led us to plan a follow up event this year.

Last night we were delighted to welcome Damian Bailey, organiser of the The Wedding Industry Awards who spoke about setting up the awards, now in their 2nd year and why they felt the industry needed recognising in this way.

Last night’s event was planned to encourage further networking amongst suppliers and to showcase a few of these companies.

Caper and Berry served a selection of delicious canapés; the beef lollipops with chilli jam were divine as were the decadent chocolate mousses served in mini kiln jars.

Starlight Design worked their magic with lighting and production to show 45 Millbank in all it’s glory.

Lavender Green created table centres for each season around the room – the Spring bouquets of fresias were gorgeous.

The Cocktail Service whipped up a mean Mango Bellini as well as an amazing Marmalade Vodka – yummy!!

Other suppliers who kindly added finishing touches to the evening were Topiary House, Prantl Stationery, Fun Wedding Photos for their great photo stand,  Brides & Beauty, Chocolat A Toi,  Allens Hire and Ananya Cards.

Plans are already under way for the next Networking Evening. With thriving wedding industries in all the major cities across Britain we intend to roll out the Wedding Industry Networking Evenings nationwide.

But for now it was lovely to see so many familiar as well as new faces mingling, enjoying the lovely surrounding, delicious canapés and great company.

The wedding Industry is a specialist market place and it was nice to chat with like minded people who know very well why these most special of events are both such a challenge and so rewarding!

So it’s finally here!! The long awaited day is upon us.  Years of planning and preparation culminate in the start of the Olympics, London 2012.

As tonight’s opening ceremony commences expect a huge influx of tweets sharing images and information about the biggest show in British history.

How exciting for those of us sat at home glued to our tellies to be able to share in real time countless impressions and personal experiences of those actually there!

Experts are predicting that Twitter will serve as an “official narrator” for the games and it has certainly been true in the run up to them. The excitement and buzz around the games is palpable.  Jut when it’s slipped your mind that Britain are about to host the biggest party on the planet someone else starts a Mexicans wave of excitement. (Sat in the hairdresser I read Gary linekar saying “writing my introduction to the Olympic opening ceremony, the hairs on the back of my neck are standing up!” – mine too now Gary!!)

Twitter will be so much an integral part of these games we will wonder how we could ever have got involved without it. Did we feel as interested and involved in previous games where we would have had to rely on radio and tv reportage? Now that we can  follow the updates on events, the feelings of athletes about their performances, get behind-the-scenes photos and more throughout the tournament it will surely  make us feel so much more a part of the action.

Twitter  and NBC Universal have announced a partnership for the games. Not a financial deal as such but an opportunity for lots of cross-promotion. Twitter will use the partnership to get the message out from inside the games themselves – including Olympic athletes and NBC personalities while NBC will continually tout Twitter during its two weeks of on-air coverage.

Although the 6 year old Twitter does not have anywhere near the clout of Facebook in terms of advertising revenue (Twitter has 140 million active users versus the 901-million-strong Facebook) it is sure to want to capitalise on what is expected to be a huge surge in social media activity during the Olympics to achieve its predicted “$260 million in revenue this year” according to eMarketer Inc.

But for all those that are excited about the very real advantages of being able to stay connected to the games there are those worried about the perceived distraction of Twitter on the athletes themselves – replying to tweets, feeling obliged to partake in pre-event tweeting.  As well as all manner of challenges for the organisers –  details of the opening ceremony have leaked online, Greek triple jumper Paraskevi Papachristou was withdrawn after she posted a perceived racist tweet and athletes who have tweeted photos of their accreditation accused of causing breaches in security.

In the four years since the Beijing Olympics, the number of social media users has exploded, as has the amount of people with smartphones so whatever your take on social media one thing is for sure, these games will showcase Twitter as THE marketing platform for live events. As Chloe Sladden, Twitter’s vice president of media says “Twitter is really where the party is.”

The London Olympics are set to be liked, tweeted, pinned and shared like  no other event  in sporting history as athletes, fans and organisers interact online in the first-ever social media Summer Olympics!!



The Shard was officially completed last Thursday and was celebrated by a spectacular laser show!  The Shard is now the largest building in Europe standing at a staggering 1,016 foot tall. It is now the 59th largest building in the world and prides its self in being made from 95% recycled construction materials.

Designer of The Shard Italian architect Renzo Piano claims The Shard was named after being described as a shard of glass in the early planning meetings.

The Shard will be host to 24 floors of offices space and two floors of restaurants. Between the 34th and 52nd floor will be host to the internationally known 5 star Shangri – La hotel and spa with 200 luxurious rooms.

Above The Shangri – La Hotel on the 53rd – 65th floors there will be 10 exclusive residences with spectacular 360’c views of London. Lastly between the 68th-72nd floors will be public observation galleries. Where members of the public can take in the remarkable views of London like never seen before!

The Shard is a very unique building for the many reason mentioned above it also couldn’t have been launched in a more ideal year, with the London Olympics hoping to reach record breaking visitor numbers, not only for the capital but the country as a hole. Therefore making it the ideal year for The Shard to be launched into business sitting in the heart of London.
